The ballot provides that the Village will reduce property taxes, how does voting “Yes” increase property taxes?
The Village will be joining the LMFR at the LMFR’s current millage which is 9.4 mils. The tax due on a home assessed at $300,000 will be about $837. A non-binding resolution passed by LMFR provides that it will decrease the millage for all residents of its district to 6.5 mills, but it will later ask for one mill back to build new fire stations. Therefore, the “net” mills that Mariemont property owners will be paying to LMFR will be 7.5 mills, which is about $668 per year. Village officials also propose to repeal 4 mills of Village imposed property taxes, which will result in a net projected increase of 3.5 mills, which is about $312 per year. Mariemont citizens should understand that if the ballot is passed, property owners will be paying a “net” $668 per year to LMFR (assuming LMFR reduces its tax rate) regardless of whether the Village reduces any of its existing tax levies..
