THE BABY TEETH ARE GOING TO BE LOST, WHY SHOULD THEY BE LOOKED AFTER?
Even though they are called ‘baby teeth’ they must serve the child from the age of 6 months to at least 12 to 14 years of age. The baby teeth should be given the best of care as they perform the following functions: a. ASSIST IN CHEWING FOOD. The child needs proper nutrition to grow properly. If the child has painful, diseased, or infected teeth, or no teeth at all, it is difficult for him to chew food properly. If the child has pain whenever he chews, he will avoid eating. This can affect growth. It has been observed that children do gain weight after oral health is restored. b. APPEARANCE of the child can be marred by absent or broken down teeth. This can affect the psychological development of the child as he/she will be subjected to being teased. c. The baby teeth are an important part of the child’s SPEECH ORGANS.
