The Artificial Air Pocket Device (Avalung) was introduced in the US. Is that not the solution?
The emergency equipment Avalung is supposed to allow a buried avalanche victim to breathe. During an avalanche the mouthpiece must be inserted into the mouth first. The device extracts air from the snow facing the victim, and expels the toxic CO2 produced by the body through a ventilation system on the back of the victim. This is supposed to enable breathing inside the snowpack, and, thus, prolong the time of survival, as long as the massive pressure from the snow does not impede the expansion of the rib cage. The Avalung is worn on top of the clothes.
