the 18-135 lens kit, how do I take a decent picture of the moon?
I am using a tripod, and have it on the night scene setting at 135mm, but it is just bright ball with no definition. We have had a dark sky with a full moon… Did you read my question? You can’t take a good night shot using automatic or program exposure modes, you need to go full manual, camera and lens. Zoom your lens out to 135 and open it far as you can. You have a handicap than you wides lens opening for that particular lens in only 5.6. Okay for daylight shooting, but not good for extreme low light shooting situations. Set you ISO sensativitiy to no more than 800, 400 would be better. Higher than that and you’re going to get a lot of noise. If you don’t have a remote trigger (what we used to call a cable release) for you camera you’ll need to use the selftimer. Set you shutter speed to 15 seconds and take a shot. Check your histogram to see if you’ve got a good exposure, just looking at the image on the viewscreen won’t tell you much. If the histogram shows an even exposure then
