TeX doesn have any automatic numbering facilities. What can I do to get them?

• Use AMS-LaTeX. • If you are submitting a paper to a journal that will be posted on-line, we ask that you don’t try to get automatic numbering. We translate all AMS-TeX files to AMS-LaTeX, and any complicated author macros may have to be converted manually. In the case of automatic numbering, that would raise a strong possibility for errors. • If you are writing a monograph or a paper for a proceedings collection, you are welcome to create your own numbering macros. However, we don’t have any packages, or enough staff support to provide this facility.
