What you basically need a tan accelerator to do, is to increase the levels of a chemical called melanin in your body. Melanin can be found in our pigment cells. The pigment cells, in turn, are responsible for the color of our skin. The more melanin there is in the pigment cells, the darker our skin. Tanning accelerators are made to make sure the melanin level in your pigment cells goes way up. This makes it so much easier for you to get a tan.
