Tabatha, do you happen to know what breeds this dog is a mix of? Without being able to see the dog’s behavior in person, it’s difficult, if not impossible, to give you advice for this situation. My recommendation would be to not let kids around the dog, PERIOD (at least for now); take the dog to the vet to rule out any medical reason why the dog would suddenly try to bite you (it could be pain in her rear legs or it might even be what’s known as “rage syndrome”); and once medical issues have been ruled out, contact a local trainer in your area that has experience in dealing with aggressive dogs. Ideally you want your aunt to be able to work with this trainer one-on-one, either at her house or at the trainer’s facilities – a group class would not be a good choice because there are so many distractions and the dog’s biting issues could not be addressed.
