First consider in which zones you will travel regularly. If it is zone 1-2 then buy a Travelcard for zone 1-2. The odd journey in the other zones is better covered by using PAYG as an extension. It is normally £1.40 per journey outside your Travelcard zones (or free by bus). So calculate the added cost of PAYG journeys and compare it with the cost of a Travelcard which does include the zones.
