An oil’s ability to protect an engine is measured and tested based on two important characteristics, pour point and flash point. Pour Point is the temperature at which the oil stops flowing. (Cold) Flash Point is the temperature at which the oil burns and then turns to a sticky tar-type substance. (Heat) Below is a chart showing the differences between Convention, Semi-Synthetic, and full synthetic oils.
