Susan, is there a communication difference between males and females?
There is quite a bit of research that supports differences in gender communication, biologically and in the purpose/meaning males and females have for communicating. However, gender is just one factor that influences our communication styles. Cultural background, age, education, personal history, and geographic location also make a difference. 3) Some parents seem to hang on, and some children can’t seem to let go. How do you account for this and how should parents handle this? In the work I’ve done with families, many parents have not prepared themselves for this transition. Taking care of their children has been their life and it can be frightening to develop a “new” life and interests from scratch. However, it’s not healthy to use children to fill this void.
