UV radiation (in daylight) is indeed inducing in the skin the creation of the vitamine D in such a form that there cannot be an overdose as the excess is converted into another chemical combination. If vitamin D is taken orally with a pill, there is a risk of an overdose. So taking a sun bath is a safe way to create vitamin D. In 2004, a Technical committee is started by the CIE (Commision International d”Electricite) to study what recommendations can be given on the optimum UV dose, i.e. the optimum between no UV (risk of vitamin D shortage) and too much UV (risk of sunburn and related cancer).
