Suppliers of PTFE greases claim that these are very high performance greases. Does SKF offer PTFE greases?
SKF believes that in most bearing applications, except for very low speed applications, PTFE or other types of solid lubricants are not necessary. Under normal conditions the bearing speed will build up a liquid lubricant film, also under high loads and shock loads. The concept of using PTFE, as used in frying pans, conflicts with the theory of having high quality bearing surfaces, which should be smooth and not look like a frying pan… SKF only recommends the use of fluorinated, PTFE thickened greases at extremely high temperatures. For such applications, SKF offers LGET 2, extremely high temperatures bearing grease, which contains PTFE. However these types of greases are usually very expensive and only recommended for use when operating temperatures is higher than 200 °C. If used at lower operating temperatures, these greases will not provide longer life and sometimes grease life will be even shorter than conventional high quality bearing greases. Generally greases fortified with PT
