Students will often ask if they can take the test again, right away, if possible! What is the policy on being allowed to try the ACT Writing Test again?
Students may not take the test again right away in an attempt to improve their score. They must enroll in a writing class. However, every student has a chance to take a First Day Essay Exam. It is important to note that this is not the ACT exam. It is a departmental exam that may allow students who do very well to move up a level. The exams are read by the instructor, who, along with the chair or coordinator, decides if any students can be moved up. If a student writes an outstanding First Day Essay, it is read by certified ACT readers who will then decide if a student may take the ACT exam again. It is important to note that the instances in which a student qualifies for this option are very rare. Students must also have passed or be exempt from ACR 095 to qualify for this option.
