Strongly Christian USA incarcerates more citizens than atheist nations. Does Christianity encourage crime?

You have to be careful comparing crime statistics, especially between different countries. Incarceration rates cannot simply be assumed to represent the number of criminals. Perhaps the US tends to have longer jail terms, perhaps its police forces are more efficient or better funded. Perhaps US criminals are just not very good at crime and are more likely to mess up and get caught. Perhaps a greater range of activities are criminalised in the US, or such criminalisations are more likely to be enforced. Perhaps they have the same number of crimes but the US judicial system is more likely to lock up the innocent. So what I’m saying is, from those statistics alone you cannot say that Christianity encourages crime. You can say that it doesn’t discourage crime, since clearly there are a lot of Christians in prisons. But there are far too many factors involved to simply say that Christianity encourages crime.
