I have tried in the past a “tape” solution, with students recording answers — but it really upset a number of them, I was unable to simulate real conversation because I couldn’t pick up on their answers, etc., etc. It’s a problem. I have found that if the student realizes what it is you are doing, he/she will cooperative. You could do a “mock interview” (similar to the ones we do in training) in front of the entire class. Then, you give out “Situational Cards” and have the students in class practice while you are outside really doing an interview. Of course, each person has to decide whether this type of exercise would *work* with their class.
