Still winning awards, do the DJs favourite headphones stand up three years on?
Sennheiser first released their closed-back monitoring headphones back in 2005. Fast becoming an industry standard for pro users in sound monitoring, ENG and cameramen, it wasn’t long before the DJ community started to take advantange of the solid sound reproduction and background noise isolation. Three years on and the HD-25 II is still a firm favourite, winning the readers choice “Best Headphones” award in the 2008 DJ Magazine Tech awards. Impressive stuff considering the level of competition in this arena, so we thought it about time we gave the DJ’s favourite cans a good going over. On first unboxing, it’s not immediately obvious what all the fuss is about. Sennheiser have opted to eschew the riot of brushed aluminium-effect, die-cast detailing normally found on the headphones of their competitors. There’s no gleaming blue LEDs, no logo-adorned thick headband, and no multi-articulated every-which-way fancy mounting for the ear cups. Instead, we’re presented with an unassuming and f
