Next, make sure the hands rotate freely without touching each other. The most common reason for a clock not working is that the second hand has been bent (downwards, not to the side) and is hitting the minute or hour hand it as it turns. This can happen when you turn the clock over to put in the battery and don’t realize you’ve hit it with your hand or if you set the time by pushing the hands with your finger instead of using the dial on the back of the clock. To check to see if this is your problem hold the clock flat and level and look across it. Give the second hand a little push and see how it spins. If either end of it even slightly grazes the hour or minute hand you’ve found your problem.
