Steel or Cast Iron – is there difference?
When it comes to quality they are not really different. You may hear stories about the cast iron stoves cracking or steel stoves buckling but the problem is usually related to over-firing (burning at temperatures higher than designed for). The main differences are mainly in the appearance: Cast Iron heaters have the “classic” appearance. They can be coated with durable porcelain enamel finishes in an assortment of popular colours that are appealing to the eyes and easy to clean. Or, if you prefer just the simple cast iron appearance, they all come in matte black as well. Steel stoves are constructed of machine-rolled plates that are sprayed with high temperature stove paint – usually black or grey. The stove can be spray-painted over with custom colour stove paint as well. Although the basic steel stove always comes with a black door and a pedestal it can be also “dressed” up with gold or nickel doors/legs.
