It’s an interesting topic. For me who is mainly agnostic, I like the psychology behind the beliefs that people have and just seeing the passion that people have from all sides. And for example for this website, if everyone here at R&S were just believers then it wouldn’t be as educational or as interesting. I say that because legitimate questions that get asked, encourage discussion, thoughts, opinions, it may invoke some personal insight, some self questioning, from both sides. It may help the ‘opposition’ to reflect upon how they see things. I do not think that one can be without the other. Christians need atheists, and vice versa, Vice versa, I hear you say, why would atheists need christians? The christians are just a confirmation to atheists why they are an atheist. Christians need atheists because they need to proselytize.

Religious people don’t spend too much time researching their religion, because it will lead to finding it to be in err, without evidence, and even detrimental to human growth and well being. They either stop discussing it with Atheists, or become one.
