Statement of LMSD Regarding Redistricting Plan 3R Challenge Q: What is the status of the redistricting litigation?
Testimony and closing arguments have been completed and the judge is now preparing Findings of Fact. Once issued, they will be the subject of legal argument by counsel for the parties. While there is no way to predict the ultimate outcome in this or any case, we believe our counsel presented a compelling, comprehensive, factually-based case warranting a favorable outcome. The record shows that the School Board and Administration demonstrated our genuine commitment to providing exceptional educational opportunities to every student; preserving historic, district-wide school feeder patterns; and meeting the District mandate to equalize enrollment at both newly-constructed high schools. While there are facts and legal interpretations in dispute, we can all be reassured by the Court’s laudatory remarks at trial about our two great high schools.
