State aid estimates previously provided to TEA will not reflect enrollment increases due to the hurricane. What options do districts and charter schools have to increase state aid?
School districts and charter schools will receive state funding for any student in attendance who is a resident of Texas , regardless of the length of residence. A district with an increase of 50 or more students who are homeless due to Hurricane Katrina may notify TEA’s Office of State Funding of the enrollment increase and have funding increased with the next scheduled payment from the Foundation School Program. A form to provide notification may be obtained at the State Funding website http://www.tea.state.tx.us/finance.html. It is also recommended that your district keep track of expenditures made to serve students entering Texas public schools as a result of being rendered homeless by the hurricane. The Federal Emergency Management Agency may be authorized to reimburse some or all of those expenditures. We are working with the Governor’s Office to identify any avenues for recovering expenses.
