Startled at the stillness broken by reply so aptly spoken… what does the poem “the raven” mean?
1) Startled…. The narrator is started that the Raven breaks the stillness of the room with a reply that seems to fit perfectly with this thoughts 2) … Stock & store… The narrator tells himself that the word “Nevermore”, while seemingly very profound, is probably the only word the Raven knows. He then goes on saying that the reason “Nevermore” is the only word Raven knows is because it has born too many melancholy burdens, unhappy masters, and disasters in its life. No doubt, reminding the narrator of his own life.
