Shrek 3 opened this weekend with $122 million in box office sales. The highest ever for an animated film. The number two film this week (in the U.S.) was only the $20 mills and number three was only $5 mill. Yes, I think these kind of films, obviously, appeal to a wider audience. People of all ages can enjoy Shrek, you can see it on a date or with the kids etc. However, alot of it is marketing. We wanted to see a film this weekend. At two of the three theaters we could go to (all more than a 30 minute drive), two of them had Shrek 3 playing on half their screens. They are both 16 screen theaters, so you do the math. Any film that blankets the box office offerings is going to do OK by sheer odds of coverage.
