Speaking of graf, have you seen the documentary, “Chocolate City Burning”?
Aniekan: I know of Cool Disco Dan and Ultra but I didn’t know about the documentary. I want to see “Chocolate City Burning” to understand the history of it. We need documentaries, just about DC in general, not a particular kind of art but the variety of local artists to show people how it is right now. Atek: Is Murals DC one of your biggest projects? Aniekan: Yes, it was two murals in the same year at different locations. Atek: Do you think more people are starting to embrace local artists because of public art projects like Murals DC? Aniekan: Yes. It gave many of the artists an opportunity to put out their work but also make money. It opened a new avenue of artists that they did not consider before, especially ones involved in graffiti art. I think the Murals project opened up a door, where people were able to see what we can create. When they think graffiti, they think the illegal part but I view it more as a medium.
