Sorry”. Should the Australian Govt haveapologised to the “Stolen Generation” today?
I am very proud to say I am an Australian today and if those with sour grapes over the apology aren’t that’s their problem it is the right thing to do and it took a great man in Kevin Rudd to do it. The only propaganda we have heard in these events are from those that still kid themselves that these children were actually taken for their own good. These people should look at their mothers, fathers ,grandparents and siblings and imagine their life without them and would they be the same person they are today without their guidance.
After seeing the truth of the story, ABSOLUTELY! YAHOO NEWS CANBERRA, Australia – Australia will issue its first formal apology to the country’s indigenous people next month, a senior minister said Wednesday, a milestone that could ease tensions with a minority once subjected to policies including the removal of mixed-blood children from families on the premise that their race was doomed. http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080130/ap_o… My thoughts: This practice continued through 1997 until “liberals” marched for an end to this hideous practice. Young ladies that were abducted by the state tell stories of being sexually assaulted repeatedly while in the custody of the state. Former PM Howard sees no need for an apology for these very recent human rights abuses and crimes of abduction. Australia should be ashamed of what they have done to a group of fellow human beings. ==> I applaud the Australian government f
Here here…. my first response to this as an Aboriginal australian was PRIDE. Pride in that my country is showing signs of maturity. Pride in that such a public figure openly acknowledges a horrible stain on this country’s history and makes a speech that touched the heart of EVERY Aboriginal person I know. Pride that finally someone has the balls to say it like it is. For those who didn’t want an apology to be made and deny a racist history, get over yourselves. When I see you white fullahs out there lining the streets on ANZAC DAY, patting yourselves on the back for Gallipoli and the rest of those bloody battles, I want to see your medals and records of service. Otherwise stop dragging those poor old men out to satisfy your lack of identity.
