Sometimes at our hospital in an ambulatory setting, services are provided to more than one child in a family at the same time. How should data be recorded?
Firstly, all of the children should be registered. If the time equally relates to more than one of the clients, the workload should be divided equally among the number of children who received services. Depending on the functional centre involved either an attendance day (therapeutics) or visit (ambulatory care) should also be recorded for each of the children for which face-to-face services are provided. If applicable, a new referral or active carryover would also be noted. If the services provided on a particular occasion obviously relate to one of the children, although the others are also present, assign all of the workload and other statistics to that specific child.
