Word Frequencies in Written and Spoken English: based on the British National Corpus is a book by Geoffrey Leech, Paul Rayson, and Andrew Wilson. Their frequency lists are available online . Adam Kilgarriff has also produced frequency lists from the corpus. You can find a link to them on his web page.
