Somebody using my e-mail address to send spam. How can they do that and how I can prevent it.?
When you send a mail, although you may not realise it, you actually tell your mail program what your email address is. Normally this is in the options and never changes, but in principle you can set this to any address, just like you can put any address in the “To” field. The way most people send mails is to use an email server provided by their employer or by an Internet Service Provider (ISP) such as google, yahoo, hotmail, etc. Normally your mail server will check what you have put as your email address and refuse to transmit it if it does not correspond to the account you are using to access the mail server. However it’s perfectly possible to set up a mail server on your own computer, and send the mails directly without using a mail server, and in this case you can use any address you like. Spammers will sometimes use the same address in the “to” and “from” field, because it’s unlikely that you will have your own address in your list of blocked addresses. You can’t prevent spammers
