What you are seeing is scattered Lyman continuum emission from the sun. Since the failure of the third reaction wheel in December 2004, we have experimented with the use of off-nominal roll angles to improve spacecraft stability. Sometimes, these roll angles place the spacecraft in a configuration that allows scattered sunlight to contaminate one of the SiC channels. We have no way to model or subtract this emission.
