Entheogen is a greek word, it’s translated as “making possible (contact with) the divine within (oneself)”. Drugs (and drug plants) which can transport their user to mystical states of consciousness are often called entheogens. More properly entheogen refers to a type of drug usage, not a type of drug. Salvia is not a drug but it could be used as an entheogen. Such occasions would be when taken as part of a serious spiritual quest, where the user is trying to learn and understand the deeper levels of consciousness, self, and existentialism.
