Some of my student are having trouble using the Collaboration tools (Virtual Classroom and Lightweight Chat) in My.Seneca. Do they need any special software?
Yes, Java 2 Run Time Environment Plug-in is required for My.Seneca’s Collaboration features to function properly. The new JRE 1.4.1 Java Plug-in should automatically install when a user attempts to join either of the Collaboration features. A new browser window will open and a Security Warning dialog box will appear. You will be prompted to install and run “Java 2 Runtime Environment.” Click on Yes to install the Java Plug-In. If it does not automatically install, follow the procedure below to download the installer program and install the plug-in manually. Manual installation: The installer program may be downloaded manually from the page that appears when a user joins a Collaboration session, or may be found at http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4/. Notes: Any prior version of the Java Plug-in must be removed prior to installing the software in order for the Collaboration tools to function properly. Mac OS 9 and Mac OS X both come with the plug-in you need for using the Collaboration Tools.
