If there is only one event in a particular location, the map generator puts the event icon on the exact geo-coordinates. If the geocode for the town is not in the system, the map generator will put the icon in the next largest jurisdictional area that has a geocode (district, county, state, country). Thus, if the town does not have a geocode and the county does, the icon will appear somewhere in the county; if the county is not geocoded, the icon will appear in the state or country. Counties and states are usually geocoded near their centers. When multiple events are mapped to the same place, the map generator will spread the icons out a little bit so you can distinguished between them and click on one or another.
