Some hosting sites offer Creative Commons licences automatically, but I can’t choose a New Zealand one. Does this matter?
If you are given the option of selecting a Creative Commons licence from within a hosting site, it can make the licensing process much easier. Many sites do not offer the option of choosing New Zealand licences, meaning you would just be issued a ‘generic’ one. You may decide that a generic license is fine to use because it offers the same bundle of rights that a New Zealand one does. However, there are advantages when using a New Zealand licence if you are publishing online while in the country. Go to FAQ question II.9) (site link backwards here) to see the benefits of holding a New Zealand licence. You may choose to display a New Zealand Creative Commons licence rather than the generic one offered on some hosting sites. To do this, ignore that site’s licensing options, and simply licence the work yourself. Keep in mind that your work may not show up under a Creative Commons search in hosts such as Flickr, if you choose not to licence through their site.
