Solarban 70XL. Why is the annealed version on Starphire glass and the tempered version on clear?

Well, that certainly is the $64,000 question isn’t it? We don’t actually know. We do know that they are identical in appearance when glazed side by side. We were invited down to the PPG Research and Development facility to inspect SB70XL (annealed and heat treated) glazed in PPG’s on-site mock up building. This inspection/challenge involved eight randomly glazed IGU’s within two stories. The glass was viewed at different angles, in different lighting conditions, both inside and out. We were then asked to chart which were annealed and which were tempered. None of the participants even tried, the glass was, and is, identical.
