Social/economic/environmental impact of banning old people from driving?
Seems like not many people here are interested in the rights of old folks. In countries like the USA, it is common that the elderly live by themselves and handle their own affairs. So since it is almost impossible to even go shopping without a car, you would leave old people without the chance of actually being independent. You might say that they can order groceries delivered to their home, but then you enhance the isolation they are already into, thus enhancing as well conditions of depression caused by loneliness. Just these two factors make up for the need to keep them driving as long as possible -there is a limit, no doubt but it must be assessed on a case to case basis. It is still possible to regulate their driving, like not being authorized to take the highway or the fast lane.
