So, Whats the problem with updating my Virus definitions weekly?
I am amazed at the number of people I talk to who say they update their virus definitions every week or 2. These people are, for one, not one of our clients and also they are experiencing problems indicative of a virus. When I suggest the possibility of a virus, they are shocked and say ask “how can that be?” Long gone are the days of doing your updates every week or two. It used to be that Norton did the Live Updates on Wednesdays, they have come off of that. For those of you using Norton (Symantec), they also have “Intelligent Updater” , which downloads the most up to the minute definitions. This is a manual process that takes 10-15 seconds, if you have a fast Internet connection. On a daily basis I receive anywhere from 100-250 emails and lately about 10-20 of those are a Virus or Worm. Last week I received an email from someone at our bank which seemed legitimate, but the attachment name made no sense at all. That was obviously a virus. On Monday, 3/1 I received an email from a har
