So, whats the deal with Greek ceremonies?
Greek Orthodox wedding ceremonies have remained virtually unchanged for more than a thousand years. It’s a beautiful, ancient tradition. You won’t be hearing the usual vows and there won’t be a unity candle. Everyone is welcome to witness the ceremony; there will be no communion or other Orthodox-only portions of the ceremony. It is a long ceremony by today’s standards, and there will be sitting and standing portions throughout the betrothal and marriage ceremonies. If you feel unable to stand for a lengthy period of time, you are welcome to sit for the duration. We ask that people with fussy children kindly take them to the back of the church.
