So, what is a reputable breeder?
Breeders are human beings, and none of us are perfect. Ideally the person you want to buy from has a small number of dogs and breeds for a purpose; to better the breed and move forward with their breeding program and improve the quality of their dogs with every successive generation. The ideal breeder should put titles on their dogs but I don’t know that any one title is better than another. While a Championship can be a good measure of faith that the dog conforms to the breed standard, the Doberman is a working dog and obedience, Shutzhund or other performance titles are just as valuable. The ideal breeder is easy to talk to, is a wealth of accurate information, is happy to hear from you and answer your questions, and always has their puppy’s best interests at heart. Breeding dogs is an expensive hobby, and most of us would rather put money into the dogs than luxury items; besides expensive things make great chew toys!
