As the name suggests it is a video camera usually installed in a strategic point, either exterior or interior of school facilities so as to record movements in the nearby area. It feeds video pictures to a back end system where someone watches the pictures on a monitor and may also record them. Thus a constant watch is kept on sensitive areas of campus like all entrances, exits, laboratories, dormitories etc. The camera is usually installed in ceilings or walls at a height where a normal human being can’t reach without assistance. The cameras are usually mounted such that face of anyone who passes in its vicinity is captured on the screen. Most new cameras can be controlled. Hence, the focus of the camera can be varied. Also the camera itself can be rotated and at times moved in a limited area. Thus a near 360 degree view of the area to a certain extent can be captured.
