SLR Camera- what does the SLR stand for?
As answered above, SLR stands for Single Lens Reflex. This refers to the viewing system of the camera, which uses the same lens as the one used to take the picture. The advantage to the user is that you see what the camera sees, no more and usually a bit less (5% or so). An SLR may or may not have interchangeable lenses and many manual controls. The SLR refers only to the viewing system. However, as it is rather expensive to create all the mechanism to move the mirror out of the way while the shutter is open, the SLR usually tends to be for the advanced photographer, or someone who wants to become an advanced photographer.
