Since there are always going to be hundreds of different species of bacteria in my mouth, wouldn the OraFresh chair-side oral infection test (BANA) then always show positive?
The OraFresh chair-side oral infection test (BANA) is calibrated to change color only when a certain threshold level of three most aggressive and relevant to periodontal disease bacteria are present. The bacteria being tested for are: Porphyromonas gingivalis, Treponema denticola and Tannerella forsythia. When this minimum threshold is reached, the color changes gradually from light blue to dark blue depending on the levels of these three specific (P. gingivalis, T. denticola and T. forsythia) bacteria.
