Shouldn vegans avoid organically-produced food?
Q Hi Uncle Dave. I am a vegan and like you would prefer to support organic farming methods, but, I’m in a bit of a quandary because certain fertilizers, e.g. blood & bone, chicken and other animal manure, and Charlie Carp, are all certified organic fertilizers. I do try and grow some of my own vegetables (with difficulty as I live on a bush block) but, inevitably, have to buy many products that I have no way of finding out what fertilizers were used in the growing stage. Surely I can’t be the only vegan who has this problem. I’d like to hear your views on this. A I am a vegan too and I agree with you entirely – fertilisers are an issue for vegans. But the way I look at it is this: If you had to cut out every animal product from your diet and lifestyle and yet live in our current society you’d have to basically kill yourself.
