Certification requires more than just passing the Registry examination. Certification’s focus is on the cognitive, psychomotor, and affective domains. That is, does the candidate understand the principles underlying professional practice, is the candidate able to perform specific skills, and has the candidate internalized a value system appropriate for professional practice. All three of these components of competence are important to certification.
