Should women use low-dose contraceptives to control heavy bleeding and cramping while using a copper IUD?

I wondered whether women use low-dose oral contraceptives to control heavy bleeding and cramping while using a copper IUD. I currently take Kariva, but I always use condoms too–in part for cleanliness, but also because I’m concerned that my Lamictal prescription may reduce the effectiveness. (I know that it’s really the other way around, namely that oral contraceptives make Lamictal clear the system faster, but my psychiatrist said that there were some case reports of women on Lamictal and birth control getting pregnant.) I’m nulliparous and 33. Are there any plans to introduce a copper IUD with a small amount of hormones to help with the side-effects of the copper IUD?
