Should women be encouraged to skip their period in order to reduce waste caused by pads & tampons?
I’m not sure if this is a joke or not — because there are ways to skip periods with new drugs. But I really feel they just can’t possibly know if this is safe for women years down the road in terms of cancers and other things that could develop from this. Women might be able to use less pads and tampons or use unbleached ones from companies like Seventh Generation that have less impact on the environment. I would imagine a worse impact is diapers actually! If more people used cloth diapers, at least some of the time, that would be a huge impact. I also think people tend to use too many diapers. I have seen people take diapers off their babies that weren’t even soiled in any way. If the diapers resealed easier, this woudl be possible. But of course the diaper companies wouldn’t want THAT. Chlorine-free diapers are also available and that could help lessen the impact on the enviroment as well.
