Children need discipline. Physical punishment is a poor form of discipline, but it’s better than none at all. In continental Europe, the extended family is important and parenting skills are passed on from one generation to the next. In the UK, about half of all children grow up in a family with only one permanent adult member and parenting skills are non-existent. We abandoned physical punishment and now have 2 generations who cannot identify with the concept that actions have consequences. Just read the questions on here.
