Should we get rid of 1pence and 2 pence coins in the UK?

Yes get rid of them. They waste the time of both the seller and the purchaser. Also I am sure they cost more than 1p to make. On top of that they drop out of circulation very fast because people put them in bins rather than spend them. Because of this the mint is forced to make vast numbers of the things. A long time ago the UK had 1/2 pence coins. They have not been used in a long time. Why? It is because they do not make economic sense. To those who think getting rid of the pence will cost them money, yes it might do that. But think of how many cash purchases you have in a year. I would say the average person has no more than 1500 cash purchases in a year. If you lost 1 pence on each one that is 1500 pence per year. That is almost nothing. The government could lower your taxes more than that if they could save the money on making the pence. Stores would save labour if they did not deal with the things.
