Should these reservations in universities and job places be implemented?
I am absolutely clear in my mind about an answer to this question over which I have often pondered being in the field of education and have the best solution with me. Unfortunately, I do not have power to implement it. Let me first state that do have sympathy for the socially backward classes in India who definitely need to be lifted up. But as you said this is being misused by political parties as vote bank. The reason why reservations or quota is not a solution is because it deprives the brilliant students of higher class from pursuing their educational dream as I have myself witnessed among my students. Secondly, the SC/ST or backward class students who barely manage to pass XII exam get admission in medicine which they hardly finish. Moreover, when the students meet in the school, these SC/ST students make fun of higher caste brilliant students telling “no matter how hard you study, admission is assured for us only.” Knowledge is not material goods that can be supplied in a bag.
