You could either have no problem or a major problem… No Problem…if the smell is just a strange “hot” smell then it is probably just some sediment (dust, debris, etc..) in the heat exchanger area. This area would not really have been accessible for the duct cleaning process because you have to almost completely disassemble the furnace to take the exchanger out. Major Problem…if the smell has a slight oil or combusted fuel smell to it then you may have a cracked heat exchanger and the bad combusted fuel gases are coming into your home. There are two ways of checking this…one is you buy a carbon monoxide detector and check the levels in your home…the second is take fresh coffee grounds (uncooked) in the amount of 2 Tablespoons and place them in the access door of your furnace. First make sure the thermostat is set to the lowest amount…place the grounds in the door where you can see the fire if the furnace was running….close the door…turn the thermostat back up so that the
