Should the vote against Gay Marriage in Maine tell us we are not a Liberal Nation?

We are a nation of libs, cons, moderates, etc. Gay marriage is a complicated issue, and one that even libs struggle with. Gay people have gained tremendous acceptance in recent years. Gone are the days when people have to live in the closet. But it is a big leap to legalized marriage.

One of the most liberal states in fact. And we are not a liberal nation. Check the polls and the elections here in NJ and VA prove that. I support gay marriage but I am also a Republican. The majority of this country still holds onto traditional Christian values so that fight is going to be a long one.

Maine is not as Liberal as California though, and they voted for the ban of gay marriage.
